Before I begin my 2012 goals, I had to post this picture. Another reason why life should always make us smile. The photographer we used the 23rd sent me this picture last night and it reminds me not only that I can make some funny faces, but I have adorable boys at a fun age that every moment I need to treasure!
January 1st starts a new day. I've never been one to make resolutions because I knew that I couldn't keep them. Pastor Matt talked about goals for 2012 yesterday at church which made way more sense to me anyways because goals are something I consistently set for myself and now I can continue my goal setting.
2012 has a lot of unknowns in store and many new adventures and I'm embracing what's in store and getting ready for where God is taking me next. I've been thinking about things that I want to do a lot lately, writing them down where I can constantly see them and reminding myself that nothing is impossible with God. Praying. Seeking. Planning.
2012 Goals:
1. Financial goals: Aaron and I set out goals financially that we want to be at by June 30th. Then from there we will see where we need to head from there depending on my job, sticking to my goals keeps me focused and not spend just because I have the money.
2. Fitness goals: I am going to run a half marathon by May and I want to run it in less than 2 hours. (9 minute miles) I've been running consistently for 6 months now and I want to reach this goal before I turn 30. Also signed up for Clam Beach Run, Foggy Bottoms, Survivor Mud Run, and Avenue of the Giants. Hoping that I get picked in the Nike Marathon run in October, I have applied the past 2 years and I have not been picked.
3. Spiritual goals: I'm committed to read the bible in 1 year. This is something that I have never been able to accomplish but I am more determined than ever to do it. Included with this I really want to add what Pastor Matt talked about yesterday, waking up reading a little from the Bible and going to bed reading a little. I know that this is something I probably cannot do every day, but something I would like to try to get in the habit of. It was also very interesting that when Aaron and I both received our Bible promises yesterday that we received the same one, I'm hoping for incredible things in our family, ministry, and work places this year.
4. Parenting goals: continue to read Bible to Ty every day, usually he asks for it before any other book. Continue to teach him to be a man of God. I only have 1.5 years until he will be going to school full-time, making the most of the moments I have with my kids because I know how fast they go by. Aaron and I have been talking about #3 and it's crazy to think that we could have another one and Henry wouldn't be our little baby. I can't imagine Henry being our last, so we will see what 2012 has in store :)
5. Spouse goals: continue date nights, challenging each other and others in our small group, weekend away, plan our 10 year trip to Hawaii, take time for just us and time for just the 4 of us.
6. Personal goals: continue to look for ways to give to others with my time, finances, something that will encourage, and remind others that they are loved. Be a good friend. No my limits. Finish what I start and not have too many things that aren't getting accomplished. Let things get messy and be okay with it. More imperfection.
7. Career goals: Be content. I do not have consistent jobs. In June who knows if I will have a job lined up for August, but be thankful. Be patient. Be expectant. My focus is my family and being able to work part-time to motivate and encourage students who don't receive that has been powerful, yet exhausting. God knows what I can handle and what job is out there for me. Have your way, not mine.
There is so much to look forward to. I want to be consistent. I want to be challenged. I want to be content. I want to be cherished. I want to nurture friendships and family relationships that I have. I want to mentor. I want my kids and husband to get me at my best. I want to see others grow. I want to be who I have been called to be, a Mother, a Wife, a Friend, a Teacher, and a Woman of God.
May 2012 be the time that you grasp what God has for you.
